Embracing Change: A Season of Reflection

The contemplations behind my Yoga Nidra : Embracing Change

As we move through life, we begin to feel the changes more deeply. Changes in our bodies, in how we function and move, in how our minds work, and in the rhythm of our daily lives. The body that once felt strong and capable in so many ways may start to slow, and our minds, which were once laser-focused on achieving and ticking off life’s boxes, begin to wander with a sense of “What now?”

My friend and I were talking about this the other day, how we’ve spent so much of our lives pushing. Pushing to succeed, to learn more, to build a life that checks off all those expectations—go to university, get a good job, buy a house, get married, have children. And then, one day, you look up and realise…you’ve done it. You’ve reached that plateau. And instead of peace, there’s this sense of unease, this questioning of “what now?”

But what if this stage isn’t about chasing or forcing more? What if this is the season of slowing down, of simply being present with all that is? This season, for me, feels like autumn. A time to acknowledge the abundance we’ve cultivated, the blessings around us, but also a time to let go of the constant need to strive for more. It’s the beginning of a shift from the outward pursuit of success to an inward journey.

Slowing down can feel like defeat when we’ve spent so much time being productive, chasing goals. But what if it’s not about giving up at all? What if it’s about reflecting on the beauty of everything life has given us so far and being present in it? This time is an opportunity to pause, to savour the fruits of our labour, and to find gratitude for the journey that has brought us here.

Like the seasons, change is inevitable. Autumn teaches us to honour what has been and prepare for what’s ahead. And as we enter this new phase, we begin to see that the material stuff we’ve gathered—the house, the things, the status—are not what will sustain us as we move forward. What truly matters is the connection we have with our loved ones, ourselves, and the sense of peace within.

This time is a homecoming—a chance to journey inward, to slow down and prepare for the winter season of life, when life may shift again. It’s in this space that we can come home to ourselves. Every change, every season, is an invitation to reflect and evolve.

So, let’s embrace this season of life with grace. Let’s find beauty in slowing down and peace in knowing that we are exactly where we need to be. Every season offers new opportunities to grow, reflect, and come closer to the heart of who we truly are.

Success is not in the things we have obtained outside of us, but what we have cultivated inside of us. And success is not always about what you add to your life, but more about what you detach from.

EMBRACING CHANGE REFLECTIONS

1.     What changes in your life have felt the most challenging to accept, and why? Reflect on how you’ve responded to these transitions and how they’ve shaped you.

2.     How do you typically handle changes that you cannot control? Do you resist, adapt, or find a balance between the two?

3.     Can you recall a time when embracing change led to unexpected growth or a new opportunity? What did you learn from this experience?

4.     What changes are currently present in your life, and how are you feeling about them? Consider if these changes bring up fear, excitement, uncertainty, or something else.

5.     Are there aspects of yourself or your life that you feel ready to release or let go of? Reflect on what no longer serves you and how releasing it could create space for something new.

6.     How can you offer yourself more compassion as you navigate the changes in your life? What would it look like to treat yourself with kindness through moments of uncertainty?

7.     What role does trust play in your ability to accept change? Do you trust yourself and the process of life to guide you through transitions?

8.     How might the natural cycles of the seasons or the stages of life mirror the changes you are experiencing? In what ways can you embrace these cycles as part of your journey?

Create an I AM statement to help you move through resistance and embrace change (SANKALPA)

I am willing to trust that all is exactly as it is meant to be

I am accepting of myself and all parts of me, past, present and future

I am willing to surrender to what is and trust in what will be
