BreathWork AfterCare

The work you do in a BreathWork journey does not end when the session ends. The processing that takes place can last for hours and days after the initial breathe. It is for this reason you will hear me stressing the importance of after care proceeding our time together.

Here are some recommended suggestions of self care directly after a breathwork session and in the days that follow:

BE GENTLE WITH YOURSELF

  • If possible, try to carve out some quiet time to fully integrate and mindfully return to normal “life” after the session

  • Allow for greater sensitivity, openness, and vulnerability.

  • Allow yourself to be with whatever emotions and feelings arise in a loving, accepting way without judgment. Make them into your best friends. What you consider your “negative” emotions many times give you the most insight into what is really happening in your inner world.

  • Journal things that come up – this can help to bring more awareness to your process and prevent the monkey mind getting to work and over analysing everything, enabling you to stay present and in your body

PRACTICE SELF-CARE

  • Breathwork is cleansing and detoxifying - drink lots of water to hydrate and flush away any moving toxins

  • As your body will be cleansing and detoxing after the session, it is best to avoid ingesting further toxins including alcohol and processed foods, and instead opt for nourishing wholesome foods

  • Rest and rejuvenate as much as you are able and take yourself off to bed early

  • Nurture your body by taking a bath, practicing self massage or somatic touch

  • Self Care. Always… not just after breathwork. But every day. Self care is not selfish. It is a non negotiable.

GROUND AND RESOURCE

  • Gently ground yourself, particularly if you have to drive after the session. Activities such as walking, yoga, or being out in nature are not only grounding and nurturing, but will also help you continue with the feeling of connectedness often felt after a breathwork session

  • Surround yourself in your ‘resources’, the things that bring you the felt sense of safety, peace, joy and comfort. Breathwork sessions are sometimes a little intense, so its nice to do something light-hearted afterwards to shift focus. Click HERE to read my blog on RESOURCES

  • Friends and loved ones, can be an excellent resource, and if you feel that it will help your process, seek out love and support from them. Please also remember that I am always willing to be that external resource and provide support where requested.

  • It is possible that your energy channels may remain open for some time, so be aware of whom you allow into your space (which is sacred) and trust your intuition.

SHARE YOUR PROCESS/EXPERIENCE WITH SOMEONE YOU TRUST

  • Friends and loved ones, can be an excellent resource, and if you feel that it will help your process, seek out love and support from them. Please also remember that I am always willing to be that external resource and provide support where requested.

  • If you are currently working with a therapist and feel called to do so, you can make an appointment to share your breathwork experience.

  • It is possible that your energy channels may remain open for some time, so use discretion regarding whom you discuss your experience with and whom you allow into your space (which is sacred). Avoid sharing with those who may attempt to discount, belittle or invalidate your experience. Important Note: If your session was a group session, please refrain from talking about other people’s processes with those who did not attend our session. Our intention is to create beautiful, safe, private places in these group sessions where people feel comfortable to express and share.

AVOID MAKING IMPORTANT, IMPROMPTU, OR RASH DECISIONS

  • Wait at least a week before making any important life decisions.

  • Find someone you trust to discuss any decisions you are considering and ask for objective feedback.

HOMEWORK AND SUGGESTIONS FOR CONTINUING YOUR INNER PROCESSING

  • Pay attention to any “material” surfacing from your subconscious / psyche.

  • Journal things that come up – this can help to bring more awareness to your process and prevent the monkey mind getting to work and over analysing everything, enabling you to stay present and in your body. It also allows you look at things from a bigger perspective, with more clarity and understanding.

  • Work with your dreams. You are closest to your unconscious in your dreams and you may find previously suppressed or forgotten material surfacing in the days following the breathwork. If you remember your dreams, write them down.

  • Integrate breathwork into your daily routine. Breathwork is an accumulative process in that the more we practice it, the more we benefit and grow from it. Click HERE to join me on a 21 day practice or message me to find out how you can work with me to incorporate breathwork into your life.

  • Put on some music and allow your body to move/dance spontaneously and authentically. Take a look at some of my myofascial unwinding videos HERE
